Hello again! Sorry for the lack of recent blogs.
I haven't been working on painting due to the holidays, time to start up again soon. Got a lot of cool stuff for Christmas, and my brother got Skyrim so I've been playing that. It's such a beautiful game. The graphics are quite lovely.
Also, today I got an iPhone 4 so I may start doing video blogs on YouTube. Tune in to http://www.youtube.com/user/SkyaCrescentmoon91 to view my art videos (and very possibly future vlogs).
For Christmas, my dad got me an awesome backpack that has my initials on it, as well as wheels and a handle so I can drag it. It's a great addition because carrying books around for three classes all day was really hurting my back and since I'm trying to get into a four-year university and live in the dorms, it would be really useful. My mum also got me a firesafe box. So I think I'm set for this year. Soon, I'll finish my next painting and start on a late Christmas gift for a friend. I'm going to try to print it out and give it to her when I start school again so I have plenty of time.
Signing off,
Amber.

Career choices.
Hello again!
Yesterday I worked a lot on a drawing for a client, who asked me to illustrate his book. He had specific references for individual parts of the image. To my liking, the subject turned out looking completely unique. Now I have plans to do a series, starting with this image. There will be eight pieces in all. I have this one to do, then a Christmas present, then three commissions. Then a bunch of other stuff too. I definitely won't be bored!
So I'm having a bit of a medical problem that I don't understand. It's not a huge issue, but it's something that hasn't ever happened before until a couple weeks ago. If I sit with my legs curled up in any way, my Achilles tendon will get extremely stiff and I have to walk it out. Again, this is completely new. I'm trying to avoid sitting on my feet, but it's a habit and habits are hard to break. Other than that, I'm in great health.
Tomorrow is going to be a fun day. Tomorrow we view the first long film I've acted in. In said movie, I'm a creepy cult member and I've been told I did an excellent job, but I'll see that for myself tomorrow and judge for myself whether or not I did well. I'm very much considering adding acting to my career preferences. Whatever I do, I want to get into the film industry.
Anyway, I'm off for now, got stuff to do, people to save, games to play, art to work on.

Art Jury
Hello again!
Today was my last day at school for this semester and being my last day, I was required to print, mount, and present two or more pieces of artwork to professionals in the field. It's terrifying, but it helps me learn how to present to people in the industry when I'm looking for a job. This process is called an art jury. Last year, the jury didn't go too well for me. I got low grades from the judges, and my confidence as an artist lowered considerably. I started wondering if I was pursuing the wrong career.
This year was a relieving contrast. I picked pieces that showcased my illustration techniques as opposed to design techniques. And the professionals showed me my problem. I am not a designer, I am an illustrator. On one of the pieces that show only parts of my illustration, they said they wanted to see more illustration and that my composition was a little iffy, but that it was minor. They really emphasized waning to see my illustrations. The next piece was an illustration in full and they loved it. Only critique was work on composition. So, as I plan to take drawing in the four-year school I'm transferring to, I'm relieved to know that my illustrations are going a long way. I've worked hard on them and they were well liked.
That's a lot of pressure off my chest. Now I can spend the break relaxing, painting, and working on commissions. Tomorrow, I'll talk about the process so far on my next painting of a character named Kalel. I'm using a few different references for facial structure so it's going to be pretty interesting.

Finals and Fish Cakes
Hello! My name is Amber Gill and I am a full time college student going for interactive media. I'll be graduating this summer and attending a four year college next fall. Yay! I really want to get into the film industry, whether it's storyboarding, concept art, character design, or acting, or a mix of all of them, I don't know yet. But those are my main interests. I also love martial arts.
So my current position right now is getting through finals. So far I have almost everything done. Tomorrow is the last meeting of my film club. I was just elected vice-president so that's good, it's nice to know that people trust me enough to nominate me for such an important position. I actually nominated myself to get out of being nominated for president. Worked… phew!
Anyway, all I have left for finals is to put some files on my hard drive and present artwork to the class and professional jury. I've got it all mounted, which is good. Mounting is time consuming and tedious. One part of being an artist I don't enjoy. I'm rambling. So I'm not too nervous about presenting to the class tomorrow, but it's presenting to jury on Friday that I'm not too excited about. Professionals from the art field will come down and view my work, then critique it. Last time they were very… very critical. I'm looking up this time, only presenting two items though. I have to dress up and be all formal. I'm okay with the talking part. It's the waiting I don't like. Well, just a couple more days then I'm off for holiday break! I'm starting to get a bit hungry… looks like there are some fish cakes in the fridge. Mmmm!
Later!
Sincerely, Amber
